The discovery well, drilled in 528 m (1,732 ft) water depth, hit a high quality Miocene reservoir containing 29 m (95 ft) of net hydrocarbon pay. Production tests from the Miocene reservoir yielded flow rates of 330 b/d of condensate and 31 MMcf/d of natural gas. The discovery was encountered at a depth of 2,568 m (8,425 ft). Additional appraisal work will be necessary to verify the extent of the reservoir.
Noble Energy Cameroon Ltd. operates the PH-77 license with 50% interest. The other participants include Societe Nationale des Hydrocarbures, the national petroleum company of Cameroon, and Petronas subsidiary Petronas Carigali Overseas Sdn. Bhd.
"We are pleased that our first well offshore Cameroon has resulted in a new discovery," says Charles D. Davidson, Noble Energy chairman, president and CEO. "The presence of hydrocarbons in high quality reservoirs, as well as the developing gas infrastructure in West Africa, leads us to believe that the area has significant potential for Noble Energy and its partners."
PH-77 covers 1.125 million acres (455,272 hectares) between the coast of the Republic of Cameroon and its international boundary with the Republic of Equatorial Guinea. The license area is contiguous with blocks O and I' offshore Bioko Island in the Republic of Equatorial Guinea.
